THE owner of the doomed Buttercrane Travel died at the weekend aged 37.

Adrian Durr had run out of petrol on the M1 motorway and had started walking to a filling station at 9pm when a car travelling at 70mph struck him.

Mr Durr was pronounced dead at the roadside of the north-bound carriageway outside Commons, Co Louth and was buried yesterday (Monday).

He was known in Newry as the proprietor of Buttercrane Travel from 2007 until it closed in 2009.

The business went bust, with the loss of up to 10 jobs and several individuals lost deposits and holidays worth thousands of pounds.

Prior to taking over the Hill Street travel business, Mr Durr worked as a store manager at the neighbouring SuperValu: The Good Food Shop for almost three years.

In a statement, management and staff of SuperValu offered their sincere sympathies to his mother, sisters and extended family circle.

Mr Durr lived in Banbridge and mourners congregated at his Tullyear Avenue home yesterday morning before Requiem Mass at St Patrick’s Church.

The family have asked that donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Sister Consilio at Cuan Mhuire, Newry c/o Heaney Keenan Funeral Director, 5 Newry Road, Banbridge.
