THE Warrenpoint Camera and Technology Club and The Old Warrenpoint Forum are jointly hosting a meeting in Warrenpoint Library on Monday, February 15.

Anyone interested is very welcome to attend and bring along any old photos you might like to see on the forum in the future. Brian will scan them and hand them straight back.

The Old Warrenpoint Forum is now well known all over the world since it was set up and I know it is watched in many countries.

I know for myself, I have seen it in LA and Boston and even in Bulgaria, with many former ’Point people in far off Australia and New Zealand getting in the picture.

There was a large turn out for the St Bronagh’s ABC Annual Tournament held on Friday in the Balmoral Hotel.

Arrangements were in the capable hands of Gavin Dougan and Bobby Lavery and their great group of helpers. All the local clubs were represented and it was great to see the old firm back in the safe hands of the John McCoy ABC, Warrenpoint, who were defunct for many years. For results see Sports Pages.

A bit off a hiccup last week, when a horrible smell invaded Charlotte Street, apparently there was some trouble with the sewage system, but workmen were soon on the scene and all is now alright again.

Otherwise the sewage scheme seems to have eliminated the flooding at Meeting Street.

The Down County Scor finals took place in St Marks High School on Sunday and attracted a large attendance of supporters.

The Haitian Earthquake has seen many fundraising events and on January 29, Jack Ryan’s bar organised a very successful night to aid the appeal with the support of local musicians. Some of the bands taking part were Crowded Head, Allison and the Hullabaloos, Shoot the Freak and Hair of the Dawg.

A total of £304 was raised with the promise of more to come, so congratulations to all who organised or supported the night.

Booking for Cinderella began on Tuesday last and a long queue had formed outside long before the opening time.

Booking is very brisk at the moment and if you want a front row it's time you had your tickets and it is well worth the trouble.

INF Lotto numbers on Sunday 9, 11, 13, 24 failed to find a winner but four, three number winners share the runner up prize.

They are U Crilly, I Cummins, P McStravick and M Hastewell. Next Sunday’s prize is £3,400 with Collette and Country flavour supplying the music.

Not being out and about recently leaves me in a position where I don't hear of all those who pass away.

So the Horridge and Murphy Family have lost the popular Bill Horridge, a popular Mancunian who came to Warrenpoint many years ago and remained to marry the then Mae Murphy and lived with their family at Clonallon Gardens. Kathleen O'Rourke (nee Trainor) died age 93 years. Vennie Gibbons, (Nee O'Neill), George Fearon, (He formerly worked in the Smyths Bottling stores) and Madge Cole, Rostrevor. To all families sincere condolences.

Did you attend St Mark’s High School Class of 84? If so you are cordially invited to a reunion of that final year to take place in the Balmoral Hotel on March 6 at 8pm sharp. Tickets costing £20 are avail able

from committee or main organiser Dervla Hanking(Nee Cole), by phoning 07960 538 387.

Condolences to the Campbell family, Killowen and Rostrevor on the sudden death of A Quinn (Nee Campbell) who passed away on Tuesday RIP.

St Peter’s Scór team didn’t have to travel far to make an impression in the South Down Scór in St Mark’s High School last week. Twenty four teams comprising of over 300 competitors took part in the competitions in Warrenpoint and Banbridge over two consecutive nights.

Warrenpoint’s céilí dancing team came first in their section and will automatically progress to the South Down finals in Saval on Sunday, February 21.

Anna Gonzales, who represents Warrenpoint in solo singing, and the St Peter’s set dancing team will both be given a second chance to make their way to the finals after missing out on first place in the first round. The qualifying round took place in Mayobridge on Sunday and hopefully the two Warrenpoint acts have made it through to the final on this occasion.

Dance lessons: Children and adult beginner, intermediate and advanced level céilí dancing lessons will begin in St Peter’s clubrooms tonight (Tuesday). The children’s session will take place between 8pm and 9pm with the adult class running from 9pm to 10pm. Maybe some new learners could be a part of the club’s céilí dancing team at the Scór next year if the lessons pay off.

Reunion dinner: The plans are well under way for the Cumann Pheadair Naofa annual reunion dinner dance, due to take place in the Whistledown Hotel on Friday, February 26. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased from committee members. Limited numbers are available.

Inter Church talks:Aseries of talks have been arranged by the Warrenpoint Inter Church Group to take place in the Whistledown Hotel function room each Tuesday evening during February.
